SEXY SOCKS and SANDWICHES!
Local entrepreneur Dave XXXXX and Mothers That Care have teamed up to provide each child at Dunoon Primary School with not only a sandwich but a pair of socks each too!Sexy Socks pledges that for each pair of socks they sell, they will give another to charity. Dunoon Primary were the first recipients of this generous donation.
Every day thousands of South African children go to school hungry. Each day Mothers That Care volunteers try to stem that hunger by making and delivering sandwiches to school children in the Milnerton, Jo Slovo, Blouberg, Tableview, Dunoon and Atlantis areas.
For many this is ONLY meal they will have that day. Food insecurity is very real reality to too many children in South Africa and indeed in our own neighbourhoods. Too many children have no idea where their next meal is coming from, or when.
Mothers That Care has been actively working in the local neighbourhood for going on 8 years, making over 2 000 sandwhiches a week and helping out in 10 different schools, creches, and old age homes.
And yet the number of sandwiches is just not enough to quell the hunger.
In addition to feeding the children, Mothers That Care volunteers also work tirelessly in knitting and crocheting blankets and beanies to help keep the Cape cold away.
Knitted squares are made into blankets and soft toys are added to the bundle to each child has something to call their own.
